HISTORY: Arthur Mercante was born on January 27, 1920. He refereed many fights including Ali-Frazier I, Ali-Patterson II and others. He refereed over 100 world title fights and was the first active modern day referee to enter the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Presented here is his vintage boxing referee license from 1970 thru 1971.This is his license when he refereed the Ali-Frazier I bout at Madison Square Garden in New York in 1971.
FULL DESCRIPTION: This is a New York State referee license used by Arthur Mercante for the year September 30, 1971 to September 30, 1971. The license measures 2 1/2 inches by 4 inches. The license shows edge and corner wear. There is an official stamp and Mercante has signed the back. Signed on front by Commission officials Edwin Dooley and Armane Starose. Bold color and print. Clean front and back. Used for the Ali-Frazier I bout. Exceptionally historic item used for one of boxing's most historic fight.
