Tex Rickard was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1871. His boxing promoter career took off in 1910 when he staged the heavyweight bout between Jack Johnson and Jim Jeffries. He continued promoting and eventually acquired Madison Square Garden. He, John Ringling and others established the Madison Square Garden Corporation. He opened the new Madison Square Garden in 1925 and operated it until his death in 1929. Offered here is an original wire photo showing the funeral procession of the late Tex Rickard on East 50th Street in New York on January 9, 1929.
