HISTORY: On January 27, 1892 at the Olympic Club in New Orleans bantamweights Thomas Callaghan and Cal McCarthy headlined the boxing show. McCarthy knocked Callaghan out in the 14th round. For a $2000 purse, $1500 to the winner and $500 to the loser. Callaghan billed as 'The Irishman' having broken his right hand the previous month, used only his left.

FULL DESCRIPTION: This is an original Olympic Club check made payable to Thomas Callaghan for $500.0 dated January 28, 1892 which is signed in ink on the reverse by Thomas Callaghan. Mild foxing from age. Has two folds. Minor corner wear. Has a stamp which penetrates the check, not affecting the signature. 3" x 8 1/4." Exceedingly rare and early gloved fighter signature.
