HISTORY: Robert Fitzsimmons was born on May 26, 1863 in Helston, Cornwall, England. He won the World Middleweight Title on January 14, 1891 from Jack Dempsey. On March 17, 1897 he won the World Heavyweight Title from James Corbett. He later won the World Light Heavyweight Title on November 25, 1903 from George Gardner. He retired after fighting Jersey Bellew on February 20, 1914 with a final record of 43-12 with 6 no decisions, 1 no contest, and 32 KO's. Offered here is an original ink signature of Robert Fitzsimmons. Authenticated by PSA/DNA.


FULL DESCRIPTION: This is an ink signature on heavy stock paper. Boldly signed in ink, "Robert Fitzsimmons "a man's a man for a that." This expression "A Man's a Man for A' That", also known as "Is There for Honest Poverty" (Scottish Gaelic: A bheil Bochdainn Onarach Ann) or "For a' That and a' That", is a 1795 song by Robert Burns, written in Scots and English, famous for its expression of egalitarian ideas of society, which may be seen as expressing the ideas of republicanism that arose in the 18th century. Paper signed on is signed on top. Paper has a center fold not affecting the top signature. Minor spot, otherwise clean. 5" x 6 1/2." Rare signature with one of Fitzsimmons favorite expressions. Authenticated by PSA/DNA and comes with their label and letter with cert # AL08988.
