HISTORY: Robert Fitzsimmons was born on May 26, 1863 in Helston, Cornwall, England. Prior to becoming a boxer Fitzsimmons gained employment as a blacksmith. He won the World Middleweight Title on January 14, 1891 from Jack Dempsey. On March 17, 1897 he won the World Heavyweight Title from James Corbett. He later won the World Light Heavyweight Title on November 25, 1903 from George Gardner. He retired after fighting Jersey Bellew on February 20, 1914 with a final record of 43-12 with 6 no decisions, 1 no contest, and 32 KO's. Offered here is an original, first generation photograph which has been signed by Robert Fitzsimmons and mounted to a large horseshoe which was made by Robert Fitzsimmons. Authenticated by PSA/DNA.
FULL DESCRIPTION: This is an original, first generation photo of Robert Fitzsimmons in period dress which has been mounted on heavy stock and attached to an iron horseshoe which was made by Robert Fitzsimmons. Signed in white ink, "From Bob Fitzsimmons to my Pal Mayor Clayton St Joseph Mo. Nov.4th 1910." The signature itself is bold and readable. Some of the inscription is light. Attached to an iron horeshoe made by Robert Fitzsimmons and which includes the engraved name Bob Fitzsimmons 8 times along with 46 engraved stars. There are 4 spikes on the back attaching the photo to the horseshoe. Water stained on back. Mild discoloration on photo itself. Irregularly shaped to 9" x 11." Exceptionally rare. Any signed photo of Robert Fitzsimmons is rare as is any horseshoe he forged. Incredible combination. Authenticated by PSA/DNA and comes with their label and full letter with cert # AM07709.
