On November 30, 1979 Sugar Ray Leonard won the World Welterweight Title stopping champion Wilfred Benitez in 15 rounds at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Benitez had begun his professional career at age 15. He won his first title at age 17 and had won the Welterweight Title defeating Carlos Palomino. Leonard, the 1976 Olympic Champion, came into the fight undefeated in 25 fights and was the reigning NABF Welterweight Champion. Offered here is a letter agreement which dealt with the rematch provisions between the two. The agreement is signed by Sugar Ray Leonard's manager Mike Trainer and Wilfred Benitez manager Jimmy Jacobs.
This is a two page, typed agreement with corrections. Ink signed and stamped by Mike Trainer for Leonard and Jimmy Jacobs for Benitez. Clean. Stapled at top left corner. Mild corner creases and wear. 8 1/2" x 11." Scarce contract dealing with one of the biggest fights in the careers of both fighters.
