CONLEY, FRANKIE SIGNED ORIGINAL MOUNTED PHOTOGRAPH

Frankie Conley (October 4, 1890 – August 21, 1952) was a bantamweight boxing champion. He was born on October 4, 1890 in Platania, Calabria, Italy as Francesco Conte. He became the bantamweight boxing champion of the world when he knocked out Monte Attell in 42 rounds on February 22, 1910. Conley fought from 1905 until 1923 amassing a record of 34-15-12. In his career he fought some of the all time greats in his division including Abe Attell, Ad Wolgast, Owen Moran, Johnny Dundee, Johnny Kilbane, Johnny Coulan, Joe Mandot, Charley White and Harry Thomas. In 1912 he was knocked out by Mexican Joe Rivers. He died on August 21, 1952 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Offered here is a very rare, original, mounted, first generation, antique photograph of Frankie Conley depicting him at the height of his career and which he has boldly signed on the reverse.

Boldly signed on reverse in ink, "Yours very truly Frankie Conley Bantamweight Champion of the World. Pencil notations on back. Bold, clear image. Clean front and back. Not creased or torn. Minor corner and surface wear at mount. 6" x 8 3/4." Exceptionally rare signed photo of this early champion.
