This is an original, first edition hardcover book entitled, Every Gentleman's Manual: A Lecture On The Art Of Self Defence by Pierce Egan. First edition, 1845. Published in London by Sherwood and Brower. This is a lecture on the art of self defense with animated sketches of the celebrated pugilists of the last century. Embellished with several Attitudes of the Most Celebrated Pugilists. Has a spirited etching of John Jackson dedicated to Lord Byron.
This is an original, first edition, bound in early, possibly original boards. 199 pages complete. Binding is tight, but reinforced with tape neatly inside. Contains two early stamps and has a signature of noted boxing historian Bill Schutte. Some foxing of pages. Covers are worn with some bumps. 4 1/2" x 7 1/4." Hartley #597. Quite rare.
