James J. Corbett was born on September 1, 1866 in San Francisco, California. He won the World Heavyweight Title from John L. Sullivan on September 7, 1892. He retired after losing to Jim Jeffries on August 14, 1903 with a final record of 11-4-2 with 2 no contests and 7 KO's. Offered here is a cabinet card of James J. Corbett which he has inscribed and signed in pencil on the reverse as world heavyweight champion.
This is an original cabinet card photo of a young James J. Corbett in full fight pose as he looked as the time he was world heavyweight champion. Bold, clear image.Some discoloration from foxing. A tear at lower left corner with no paper loss. Signed and inscribed on the back in pencil, "New Haven Conn With Compliments To Sam Sould James J Corbett Champion of the World." Clean. Not creased. 4 1/4" x 6 1/2."
