HISTORY: James J. Jeffries was born on April 15, 1875 in Carroll, Ohio. He won the World Heavyweight Title on June 9, 1899 from Bob Fitzsimmons. He retired after losing to Jack Johnson on July 4, 1910, his only loss, with a final record of 18-1-2 with 15 KO's. Jeffries was one of the most beloved heavyweight champions in the history of the sport. Offered here is a vintage, stone litho poster of James J. Jeffries dating to his time as World Heavyweight Champion.
FULL DESCRIPTION: This stone litho poster is paper which has been professionally linen backed. It has the stamp of Metropolitan Print of New York in the lower right area. Entitled CHAMPION OF THE WORLD JAMES J.JEFFRIES THE ONLY UNDEFEATED HEAVYWEIGHT LIVING, this poster pre dates the Johnson fight and likely dates to the very early 20th century when Jeffries held the World Heavyweight Title. 28 1/2" x 38 1/2." Has a small scrape near the first E in Jeffries. The original fold lines are still slightly evident. Extremely rare.
