HISTORY: Willie Pep was born on September 19, 1922 in Middletown, Connecticut. He won the World Featherweight Title from Chalky Wright on November 20, 1942. He lost the title on September 8, 1950 to Sandy Saddler. He retired after losing to Calvin Woodland on March 16, 1966 with a final record 230-11-1 with 65 KO's. During the on-going American war effort in World War II, Pep served in the Navy in 1943 and was discharged with honors in the spring of 1944. He also served in the United States Army in 1945. Presented here is an original first generation photograph of Willie Pep taken while he was serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
