On December 12, 1986 at Madison Square Garden in New York super featherweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez defended his title against Brooklyn's Juan LaPorte. Chavez dominated winning a unanimous 12 round decision. WBA Heavyweight Champion Tim Witherspoon lost his title after being knocked out in the 1st round by substitute for Tony Tubbs, James "Bone Crusher" Smith.
