On June 19, 1936, Joe Louis and Max Schmeling fought in the main event at Yankee Stadium. Louis was undefeated and a rising star in the division. This fight was seen as another stepping stone to a title shot for Louis. In a stunning upset Schmeling would KO Louis in the 12th round. Following the fight Schmeling returned to Germany in hopes at getting a shot at world heavyweight champion Jimmy Braddock. Presented here is an original Pictorial News Of The Day dated June 22, 1936 featuring Max Schmeling as he planned his return to Germany in hopes of getting a fight with Jimmy Braddock.
