On December 6, 1985 at the Felt Forum in New York future world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson fought Sammy Scaff in a scheduled ten round bout. Tyson stopped Scaff in the very first round. Mike Tyson 13-0 (13 KOs) vs. Sammy Scaff 13-6 (11 KOs) It was the first fight for Tyson wearing what would become his signature solid black trunks. At 215 lbs., Tyson was six pounds lighter than in his previous bout just two weeks earlier. Scaff entered having lost his two previous bouts by knockout --- Proud Kilimanjaro (17-0), Tim Witherspoon (22-2). It was the sixth knockout loss of Scaff's professional career. Bout Summary-A left hook from Tyson seventeen seconds in the fight backed Scaff into the ropes and caused him to begin bleeding heavily from a badly broken nose. Tyson followed it up with a good overhand right that connected to the jaw. Scaff retreated, circled the ring, and occasionally threw a wild hook. A short left hook sent Scaff back into the ropes and down on his chest at 1:04. Scaff struggled and got to his feet at the count of eight, but the referee waved an end to the bout. Quotes-"I met him more than halfway across the ring to get an early jump on him. He didn't knock me out, but he broke my nose. I was really gushing blood." - Sammy Scaff in a 2005 interview with ESPN.com. "I've only been fighting nine months and I'm only nineteen years old. Someone that's only been fighting for nine months and nineteen years old and now they want me to fight for the title and they want me to fight a contender. That's absurd in the boxing business. That's just absurd. My job is to fight and my manager's job is to manage. If my manager went in the ring to fight Sammy Scaff he wouldn't look so well and wouldn't do so well and I feel the same doing his job. I'll fight anyone my manager chooses for me to fight, because if he feels confident I could beat them, I feel confident I could beat them also. - Mike Tyson in the post-fight interview "You have to love it to be the best at it. You have to love the sport. It's good to be successful and have financial status, but if you only go in there for the money you're only going to reach a certain status and I'm in there for greatness and peace-of-mind. I'm sure I love the sport. If I were in there just for the financial background, I wouldn't do as well as I am doing now." - Mike Tyson when asked after the fight if he was having fun in boxing.
"Mike Tyson is just a hard-working fighter that lives a boring life as an individual. Everyone says, "I wish I was in your shoes. I wish I was in your shoes." The hundreds of people that wish they were in my shoes don't know the tenth of it. If they were in my shoes, they would cry like babies. They couldn't handle it." - Mike Tyson when asked what a day in his life is like. Offered here is a very rare, original, official program for this event.
