History: Bold" Mike McTigue (born in Kilnamona, County Clare, Ireland on November 26, 1892 – died August 12, 1966) was the light heavyweight boxing champion of the world from 1923-1925. Sometimes known as "Methuselah", McTigue won the world lightheavyweight title March 17, 1923, St. Patrick's Day, defeating the Senagalese Fighter Battling Siki by decision at the La Scala Opera House in Dublin, Ireland. He would defend his title against future Hall of Famers Tommy Loughran, Young Stribling and Mickey Walker before losing the title by unanimous decision to the gold medalist wrestler-turned-boxer Paul Berlenbach in 1925. He was the brother of fellow boxer Jim McTigue.Presented here is an antique wirephoto of McTique.
