History: Joe Louis was born on May 13, 1914 in Lafayette, Alabama. On June 22, 1937 he won the World Heavyweight Title from James J. Braddock. He retired after losing to Rocky Marciano on October 26, 1951. His final record was 63-3. Offered here is original cartoon artwork of Joe Louis done in 1937 after he won the heavyweight title. Full description: This artwork has a terrific image of Joe Louis along with others involved with him including Mike Jacobs (promoter, Jack Blackburn, his trainer and John Roxborough, his manager. There is a stain along the top border which could easily be matted out. Sharp image. Clean. Rare. 14" x 16 1/2."
