History: On December 20, 1905 at Mechanic's Pavilion in San Francisco world light heavyweight champion Robert Fitzsimmons defended his title against old foe Philadelphia Jack O'Brien. O'Brien stopped Fitzsimmons in the 13th round. Although listed as a world light heavyweight title fight it was in reality just an eliminator for the world heavyweight title. The bout was fought at catchweights. Offered here a very scarce original, first generation photo taken by the notable Dana Studios depicting the two fighters squaring off in the ring before the start of the fight.
