History: Perhaps the most famous fight during the first half of the 20th century was the rematch in 1938 between Joe Louis and Max Schmeling. Schmeling defeated Louis in 1936, but two years later Louis stopped Schmeling in the very first round. Noted artist Joseph Golinkin has captured the action in this limited edition lithograph (#21/50) depicting Schmeling down, Louis standing in the corner, and the towel being thrown into the ring by Schmeling's seconds. Joseph Webster Golinkin (September 10, 1896 September 8, 1977) was an American artist. He won a gold medal in the prints category at the art competitions at the 1932 Summer Olympics for his Leg Scissors.

Full description: This is an original artwork done by the notable Joseph Golinkin depicting the end of the Louis-Schmeling II fight. Clean with no noticeable flaws. Signed in pencil by the artist. Slightly wavy, otherwise fine. 17" x 21.5" framed to 31" x 25". This limited edition lithograph is very seldom seen.
