History: On September 23, 1952 World Heavyweight Champion Jersey Joe Walcott defended his title against Rocky Marciano at Municipal Stadium in Philadelphia. Marciano was well behind on points when he dramatically stopped Walcott in the 13th round with one of the most memorable punches thrown in the history of boxing. Offered here is an original wire photo of Marciano celebrating his win over Walcott with his mother, Lana Marchegiano, upon his return to Boston on October 2, 1952. 75,000 fans greeted the new champ.
