History: On June 30, 1975 at Merdeka Stadium, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia world heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali defended his title against Joe Bugner. Ali had beaten Bugner by decision in 1973. This was Ali's third title defense since winning the championship from George Foreman in 1974. The fight was shown on closed circuit TV in the United States and about 59 other countries. Ali's purse was $2,000,000 and Bugner's was $500,000. Ali was a 3 to 1 favorite. There was an estimated crowd of 22,000. Ali won a unanimous 15 round decision. Referee Takeo Ugo scored it 73-67, Judge Ken Brady scored it 72-65 and Judge Suthee Prom Jara scored it 73-65 all for Ali. Offered here are the actual fight worn trunks used by Muhammad Ali in this fight. The trunks were given to Ali friend Eddie Brown after the fight and Brown has submitted his own letter dated in 1992 attesting to how he was given the trunks.
Full description: The trunks are white satin with black trim at the waist and piping down each leg. At the center waistband there is a manufacturer's label for Everlast which includes the logo, MADE EXPRESSLY for MUHAMMAD ALI. The trunks have some light staining and soiling from use, otherwise fine. The trunks have been photo matched to the trunks worn by Ali in this fight. Matches include position of the manufacturer's label, threads above and below that label and slight irregularities in the black waistband and white satin below it. Trunks come a full letter from Craig Hamilton of JO Sports, Inc. and from Heritage Auctions, as well as the letter from Eddie Brown.
