History: On JUne 12, 1982 at the Miami Beach Convention Center WBA Super Bantamweight champion Sergio Palma defended his title against Leonardo Cruz in the main event. Cruz upset Palma winning a 15 round unanimous decision and the title. Leonardo "Leo" Cruz, a Dominican who was adopted by Puerto Ricans almost as one of their own since he has lived in Puerto Rico most of his life, defeated Sergio Victor Palma in a sensational brawl to win the WBA world Super Bantamweight championship. This bout was a rematch; Palma had retained the championship with a fifteen rounds split decision in their first fight, held at Buenos Aires, Argentina.
