HISTORY: World Heavyweight Champion James J. Corbett fought Bob Fitzsimmons on March 17, 1897 in Carson City, Nevada. Fitzsimmons knocked Corbett out in the 14th round to win the Heavyweight Championship of the World. Presented here is an original box which was used to sell wire spools which used the images of Robert Fitzsimmons and James J. Corbett as an advertisement. Circa 1897 when Fitzsimmons and Corbett fought.

FULL DESCRIPTION: This is an original Russell Fraser New York Wire Works storage box. Inside the lid, which has separated from the box is the Corbett-Fitzsimmons image used for advertising purposes. There is some staining to the inside lid although the fighter images remain bold. The box and lid are intact, but the nails that attached the lid to the box are missing. The hinges are present. 13 1/2" x 15" x 3." Extremely rare early boxing endorsement for a product.
