HISTORY: Stanton Abbott (6/23/1867-4/23/1941) was an English lightweight who fought in the 1880's and 90's. Abbott turned professional on March 5, 1888 with a loss to Bill Baxter. Steadily improving he fought and won the English 132 pound title with a win over Harry Overton. In his career Abbott fought Owen Ziegler, Joe Gans and Kid McFarland. He retired after a loss to Joe Gans on November 29, 1897 with a final mark of 19-19-12. Offered here is a very rare check from the famous Olympic Club in New Orleans made out to and endorsed on the back by Stanton Abbott. May have been a purse for a fight with Jack McAuliffe.

FULL DESCRIPTION: This is an original Olympic Club check dated October 31, 1893 made out to Stanton Abbott for eoghty two dollars. Signed in ink on the back by Stanton Abbott and Frank Adler. The check has two small holes not affecting the signature. Corner wear. Minor soiling. Small crease at upper left corner. 3" x 8 1/4." Exceedingly rare signature of this early great from the bare knuckle and later gloved era of boxing.
