HISTORY: On May 23, 1981 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas Wilfred Benitez and Maurice Hope foght for the WBC Super Middleweight Title. Benitez prevailed stopping Hope in the 12th round. Unofficial AP scorecard after 11 completed rounds - 107-101 Benitez. Benitez was a 2 to 1 favorite. Hope made $250,000 and Benitez got $175,000. The fight took place at the Caesars Palace Sports Pavilion. Benitez knocked out Hope with an overhand right. Benitez became the first boxer in 43 years (since Henry Armstrong) to win world titles in three weight divisions. On the undercard Edwin Rosario stopped Jose Resendez in the 6th round.
