BLOCKER, MAURICE-MARLON STARLING ON SITE FULL TICKET (1990)

JO Sports Inc.

Regular price $235.00

HISTORY: On August 19, 1990 in Bally's in Reno, Nevada WBC world welterweight champion Marlon Starling defended his title against Maurice. Blocker. Blocker won a majority decision over 12 rounds to take the title. "In a surprisingly active 12-rounder, Blocker was consistently more effective, using a long left jab to take Starling's WBC welterweight title by majority decision. Starling, a defensive wizard, seemed to be an easy target to hit. Blocker separated the two-time champion from his mouthpiece with a left uppercut in round two, and rattled him in the eighth with consecutive hooks. After 11 rounds, all three judges had Blocker, 32-1 (18), ahead. His trainer, Eddie Futch, who used to train Starling before being fired, told the challenger before the 12th, 'Don't get careless.' Sensing he needed a knockout to win, Starling, 45-7-1 (27), seemed to hurt Blocker early in the round. But the lanky challenger regained the momentum and finished the fight with Starling in pursuit."
