CHARLES, EZZARD SOUVENIR PIN

Ezzard Charles was born on July 7, 1921 in Lawrenceville, Georgia. He had his first professional fight on March 15, 1940. On June 22, 1949 he won the vacant NBA Heavyweight Title in a 15 round decision over Jersey Joe Walcott. On September 27, 1950 he won the vacant World Heavyweight Title in a 15 round decision over Joe Louis. In addition to Louis and Walcott he posted career victories over Joey Maxim, Archie Moore, Charley Burley and Gus Lesnevich. His final career mark was 96-25-1.
