On July 4,1919 on a blazing hot day in Toledo, Ohio Jack Dempsey ushered in a new era in boxing with his devastating victory over Jess Willard, then Heavyweight Champion. As America was at the dawn of the exciting "roaring 20's" it had a new and exciting champion to go with it, Jack Dempsey. Offered here is a rare, original pre fight poster for the fight between Jack Dempsey and Jess Willard.
This rare poster is printed on thin cardboard stock and pictures all of the principles involved in the Jacke Dempsey-Jess Willard heavyweight title fight in Toledo, Ohio. Entitled, "Official Photograph of Principles and Officials WILLARD-DEMPSEY BOXING EXHIBITION Toledo, Ohio, July 4, 1919." The poster pictures 22 dignataries involved in the fight. Included are the fighters Jess Willard and Jack Dempsey, promoter Tex Rickard, Dempsey trainer Jimmy DeForest, referee Oliver Pecord, local co=promoter Frank Flournoy, Addison Thatcher (President of the Toledo Athletic Club), Dempsey manager Jack Kearns and numerous local officials in Toledo involved in the promotion of the fight. In the center is a depiction of the boxing ring in Toledo. 18" x 27." There are some edge and corner tears. Minor stain along the bottom. Vivid color and print and the images are bold.
