Jack Dempsey was born on June 24, 1895 in Manassa, Colorado. He defeated Jess Willard on July 4, 1919 to win the World Heavyweight Title and held the title until September 23, 1926 when he lost to Gene Tunney. In his career Dempsey fought and defeated Georges Carpentier, Luis Firpo, Tommy Gibbons and Jack Sharkey. Dempsey announced his retirement in February of 1928 with a final record of 64-6-9 with 49 KO's. Offered here is an original July, 1950 Police Gazette which Jack Dempsey has signed on the cover.
This is an original and complete issue of the National Police Gazette for July, 1950 which pictures Jack Dempsey and Joey Maxim on the cover. Boldly signed on the cover by Dempsey, "good Luck Vince Jack Dempsey." From the collection of boxer Vince Handley. 30 pages complete. Center crease. Does have wear at binding and at edges and corners. Pencil notation at top left corner. Generally clean. 10 1/2" x 13 1/4."
