Jack Johnson, the first African-American to win the World Heavyweight Title accomplished that feat defeating Tommy Burns in Australia on December 26, 1908. Later defeated Stanley Ketchel and former champion James Jeffries. Johnson was the subject of great racial derision as evidenced by this postcard issued looking for a "White Hope" to defeat the African-American champion.
This is an original postcard which is unused and possibly originating from Great Britain. Minor edge wear. No creases or tears. Clean front and back. 3 1/2" x 5 3/8."
