HISTORY: On February 26, 1945 at Madison Square Garden in New York future heavyweight contender Roland La Starza competed in the Open 175 lb. division against Dominic Modafferi. La Starza won a 3 round decision. NY Times-Roland La Starza, C.Y.O., only defending champion to go through to triumph, accepted the gift of Mrs. Challinor (of the American Red Cross). He had just won his light-heavyweight title bout in the open class, hammering his way to the decision over Dominic Modafferi, Trinity Club, with a spectacular third-round recovery.
