On May 23, 1941 at Griffith Stadium in Washington, D.C. world heavyweight champion Joe Louis defended his title against Buddy Baer (Max's brother). Louis won when Baer was disqualified in the 7th round. Louis was down in first while Baer was down three times in sixth. The last knockdown of Baer was after the bell, according to Baer's manager, who then refused to leave the ring, upon which Baer is disqualified. Offered here is an original wire photo which depicts the two fighters shaking hands at the weigh in on the day of the fight.
