On June 19, 1936 Joe Louis fought former World Heavyweight Champion Max Schmeling at Yankee Stadium in New York. Louis was undefeated in 23 fights coming into this fight. Schmeling had won three straight. Both men were trying to get a shot at the World Heavyweight Title. In this fight it was all Schmeling. Max used an effective right hand and stopped Louis in the 12th round. Louis would avenge this defeat two years later in a much anticipated bout. Louis knocked Schemling out in the 1st round to retain the World Heavyweight Title. Presented here is a poem about Louis' second fight with Schmeling.
This poem was put out in 1938 after Louis-Schmeling II and is 7" x 11." There is a horizontal crease in the center where it was folded. The corners are slightly soft and there are smaller creases in the corners and along the edges. No rips or tears.
