Regular price $235.00

HISTORY: On November 8, 1950 at Chicago Stadium Sugar Ray Robinson and Bobby Dykes headlined the boxing show. Robinson won a ten round majority decision.

"Bobby Dykes, the kid from Texas, tried but failed last night to upset welterweight champion, Sugar Ray Robinson, in a 10-round non-title match at Chicago Stadium before 5,794 fans. Bobby dropped a majority decision to Robinson in a bout that showed but brief spurts of action. Robinson, who came in at 157 to Dykes' 147 1/2, gave his lighter opponent a boxing lesson. Dykes stayed away from the infighting as much as possible, learning early in the contest that he could not cope with the ring-wise Robinson. Instead, Bobby hooked with his left and bored in whenever the opportunity presented itself. It was unfortunate for Dykes that his ring ability did not match his heart. he tried all the way but Robinson outdanced and outfoxed him, scoring with impressive right hooks in the 2nd, 5th, 6th and last three rounds." -San Antonio Light. Post-fight comments "His left hooks were very troublesome and he's fast, too. My left arm is a little sore. I guess it's from those right chops in the ribs he kept throwing." -Bobby Dykes. "Certainly Bobby's loss tonight was nothing to be ashamed of. He was fighting Sugar Ray Robinson, in my estimation, the greatest." -Jimmy Parks, Dykes' manager. "Dykes needs only experience to become a good fighter. He's going to be tough for anyone to beat in another two years." -Sugar Ray Robinson.
