On September 25, 1941 at Convention Hall in Philadelphia welterweights Sugar Ray Robinson and Marty Servo met in the main event. Robinson won a unanimous ten round decision. The official scorecards were 7-2-1, 4-3-3, and 8-2, all in favor of Robinson. Servo was the aggressor and made it an exciting fight all the way. The taller Robinson was the prohibitive favorite and handed out a lot of punishment, but Servo took it all in stride and did a lot of damage himself, especially at close quarters. Sugar Ray's biggest rounds were the eighth and tenth. There were no knockdowns. Offered here is an original wire photo dated February 17, 1942 depicting Sugar Ray Robinson leaving the New York State Athletic Commission after being suspended and fined for not reporting an offer of $25,000. to be overweight for the Servo fight.
