On September 12, 1933 at the Polo Grounds in New York Barney Ross defended his junior lightweight and lightweight titles against veteran and highly skilled Tony Canzoneri. Ross won a close 15 round split decision. Canzoneri lost 6th, 8th & 9th because of low blows. The official scorecards were 8-7 for Canzoneri and 9-2-4 and 8-4-3 for Ross. Offered here is a scarce wire photo depicting the two fighters going through a pre fight medical 5 days before the fight.
