HISTORY: On June 12, 1930 at Yankee Stadium in New York Max Schmeling and Jack Sharkey fought for the vacant heavyweight title. Schmeling was awarded the win and the title on a foul by Sharkey in the fourth round. Sharkey had won the first three rounds, but lost his title bid on a low blow. Offered here is an original wire photo depicting Sharkey standing in the corner while the referee attends to the fallen Schmeling at the end of the fight.
