Gene Tunney became Heavyweight Champion in 1926 defeating Jack Dempsey. He also won the rematch in 1927 defeating Dempsey in the famous "Long Count" fight. In addition to Dempsey he posted career victories over Harry Greb, Tommy Loughran, Tom Heeney, Georges Carpentier and Battling Levinsky. Also held the American Light Heavyweight Title. Known as the "Fighting Marine" he retired in 1928 with a brilliant career mark of 77-1-3 with one no decision and one no contest and 45 victories by knockout. Presented here is a beautiful studio photographic portrait of Gene Tunney which he has inscribed and signed.
This beautiful 8" x 10" sepia tone studio photo depicts Gene Tunney in the prime of his career in period dress. It is marked on the border by the photographer Blackstone of New York. Boldly inscribed and signed in white ink "To Norman Lanijou With Best Wishes Gene Tunney." Some slight border soiling not affecting image or signature. One very light stain outside Tunney's image (not affecting signature). No creases, rips or tears. Magnificent image of high professional quality.
