HISTORY:On June 27, 1988 undefeated Mike Tyson and undefeated Michael Spinks fought at the Trump Plaza in Atlantic City, New Jersey to decide the undisputed Heavyweight Championship Of The World. Both fighters had versions of the world title. Going in it looked competitive. Tyson had been going through much turmoil in his personal life and many experts thought that would be a distraction against the widely respected Michael Spinks. If it was it never showed. Tyson destroyed Spinks in one round in a fight never in doubt from the outset. Presented here is the press pass used by Jerry Izenberg.Jerry Izenberg (born 1930) is a sports journalist with the Newark, New Jersey Star-Ledger. His career with the Star-Ledger began in 1951 while he was still a student at Rutgers University, Newark, but was interrupted for several years during which he served in the Korean War. Izenberg has covered many memorable sporting events and figures of the late Twentieth Century, including Sonny Werblin's ownership of the New York Jets, the boxing career of Muhammad Ali, and the Loma Prieta earthquake which interrupted the 1989 World Series. In 1997, Izenberg was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame of New Jersey and in 2000 he won the Red Smith Award from the Associated Press Sports Editors.
