Rudy Unholz was born on October 5, 1881 in Germany. He fought primarily as a lightweight and began his career on December 26, 1902 with a knockout win over Jack Sampson. In a career spanning 12 years Unholz fought Cyclone Johnny Thompson, Joe Gans, Battling Nelson, and Fighting Dick Hyland. He retired after losing to Ad Wolgast on January 29, 1914 with a final mark of 58-44-28. Unholz died on June 11, 1916 at the age of 34. Offered here is an original, antique photo of Rudy Unholz in full fight pose as he looked at the height of his career.
