Jack Dempsey was born on June 24, 1895 in Manassa, Colorado. He defeated Jess Willard on July 4, 1919 to win the World Heavyweight Title and held the title until September 23, 1926 when he lost to Gene Tunney. Dempsey had victories in his career over Georges Carpentier, Luis Firpo, Jack Sharkey, Bill Brennan and Tommy Gibbons. Dempsey announced his retirement in February of 1928 with a final record of 64-6-9 with 49 KO's. Offered here is a magnificent vintage early 1920's colorized photograph of Jack Dempsey.
This is one of the finest photographs of Jack Dempsey we have ever seen. Bold color. There was a minor crease in upper right corner area which has been repaired. 16" x 20." Minor edge wear. An incredibly rare and important photograph of Jack Dempsey as he appeared as champion in the early 1920's. This photograph was taken by the noted Apeda Studios in New York.
