HISTORY: The prizefight between Joe Gans of Baltimore, the lightweight champion of the world, and "Jimmy" Britt of San Francisco, the conqueror of Young Corbett at 130 pounds, ended abruptly in the fifth round in favor of Gans on a foul. The contest was fought in the Mechanics' Pavilion in San Francisco on October 31, 1904, and was to have gone twenty rounds for the lightweight championship. Offered here is a rare, original, first generation photo which depicts the two fighters squaring off before the fight as their handlers look on.
