PAPKE, BILLY ANTIQUE PHOTO

Billy Papke was born on September 17, 1886 in Spring Valley, Illinois. During his career he fought Stanley Ketchel, Frank Klaus and Georges Carpentier. On September 7, 1908 in Vernon, California Papke stopped Ketchel in the 12th round to win the middleweight title. He retired with a record of 37-9-5. Papke died in 1936. Offered here is an original, antique photo of Billy Papke retrieving the mail at his home.
This is a first generation photograph. Stamped on the back by Pacific & Atlantic Photos, Inc. Has two small tears at top border with no paper loss. Photo has curled slightly. Clip in upper right corner. Clear image. 6 1/2" x 8 1/2."
