Jess Willard, The Pottawatomie Giant, defeated Jack Johnson in Havana, Cuba on April 5, 1915 with a controversial KO in the 26th round to win the Heavyweight Title. He defended the title once before losing it to Jack Dempsey on July 4, 1919 in Toledo, Ohio. Presented here is an antique, first generation photo of Willard as he appeared at the height of his career.
This is an original, first generation, antique photograph. Date stamped May 9, 1915, a little more than one month after Willard defeated Jack Johnson. Bold, clear image. Not creased. Clean. Some edge wear at top corners. 5" x 11 1/2."
