Benny Leonard was born on April 7, 1896 in New York City, New York. He won the World Lightweight Title on May 28, 1917 from Freddie Welsh. He retired after losing to Jimmy McLarnin on October 7, 1932 with a final record of 180-21-6 with 6 no decisions and 69 KO's. Presented here is original cartoon art regarding Benny Leonard done by noted cartoonist Robert Edgren. Robert Edgren was an important sports writer and cartoonist who covered most of the important fights of the late 19th and early 20th century including Johnson-Jeffries and Dempsey-Willard. His sport art is among the most desirable of this era. This cartoon shows the leader of New York State taking Benny Leonard away from other venues. He is walking away from opponents Johnny Dundee, Charley White and Freddie Welsh.
