Muhammad Ali was born on January 17, 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky. He won the World Heavyweight Title from Sonny Liston on February 25, 1964. He announced his retirement in February of 1970 but was back in the ring later that October. He won the NABF Heavyweight Title On July 26, 1971 in a bout with Jimmy Ellis. He regained the World Heavyweight Title when he fought George Foreman in Zaire on October 30, 1974. He retired after losing to Trevor Berbick on December 11, 1981 with a final record of 56-5 with 37 KO's. Presented here is an original high school commencement announcement and invitation for Cassius Clay. The Class of 1960 from Central High School graduated on June 11, 1960 at Freedom Hall at the State Fairgrounds in Louisville, Kentucky.
This is the original invitation with envelope. Also includes the graduation announcement which lists the entire senior class including Cassius Clay. The invitation is 4 pages including covers. The announcement is a two sided fold open document which went with the invitation. Both the announcement and invitation are clean, with no creases or tears. Both, unopened are 4 1/2" x 6." Exceptionally rare, the only examples we have seen.
