HISTORY: On March 18, 1936 at Yankee Stadium in New York future world heavyweight champion Joe Louis had his first comeback fight since losing his first fight to Max Schmeling. The opponent was former world heavyweight champion Jack Sharkey. Louis dominated and knocked Sharkey out in the 3rd round. This was Louis' first fight since being knocked out by Max Schmeling. A crowd of about 29,300 produced a gate of over $150,000. Louis received 30 percent of the receipts and Sharkey 25 percent. Louis was a 7-to-5 betting favorite.
Sharkey was down twice in the second round and twice in the third.
