Joe Louis was born on May 13, 1914 in Lafayette, Alabama. On June 22, 1937 he won the World Heavyweight Title from James J. Braddock. He retired after losing to Rocky Marciano on October 26, 1951. His final record was 63-3. Offered here is an original poster of Joe Louis entitled The Immortal Joe Louis which has been signed by both Joe Louis and his wife Martha Louis. Martha Louis was the wife of Joe Louis from 1959 until his death in 1981. She was the first African American woman to practice law in the State of california. The poster dates to an event held in his honor in 1978 in Las vegas and the poster copyrights from that year.
This poster is a color serigraph which dates to 1978. It is printed on heavy paper. The artwork was done by Michael G. Natek. It has been matted. No creasing Bold image. Some surface wear is evident. It is signed in the lower right corner, "With Love to David & Ricka Joe Louis Martha Louis." The inscription appears to be in the hand of Martha Louis. Signatures in silver pen and are bold. 16 1/2" x 23 1/2."
