Tommy Burns was born on June 17, 1881 in Chesley, Ontario, Canada. He defeated Marvin Hart on February 23, 1906 to win the World Heavyweight Title. He eventually lost the title to Jack Johnson on December 26, 1908. He retired after losing to Joe Beckett on July 16, 1920 with a final record of 46-5-9 with 37 KO's. Offered here is an original cabinet card of Tommy Burns as he appeared as heavyweight champion posed sparring.
This is an original cabinet card by photographer Rheinhold Thiele who has his stamp at lower left on the mount. Bold, clear image. Edge wear. Heavy corner wear. Not creased. Generally clean. A fine original photograph. Bowed. 4 1/4" x 6 1/2."
