On July 2, 1921 at Boyles Thirty Acres in Jersey City, New Jersey heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey defended his title against the great French light heavyweight champion Georges Carpentier. Dempsey proved too strong for Carpentier and stopped him in the 4th round in a fight which was the first million dollar gate in boxing history. Offered here is an original, antique photograph of Georges Carpentier and his manager Francois Deschamps sitting on the steps at his training camp in Manhasset, New York before his fight with Jack Dempsey.
This is a magnificent, first generation, antique photograph. Beautiful image. No creases or tears. Clean front and back. Minor edge and corner wear. Bold, clear image. One of the finest photogrpahs of Carpentier we have handled. 8" x 10."
