Billy Conn was born on October 8, 1917 in East Liberty, Pennsylvania. He started his professional career with a win over Bob Dorman on August 30, 1934.He won the World Light Heavyweight Title in a bout with Melio Bettina on July 13, 1939. He fought Joe Louis twice for the World Heavyweight Title but was not victorious. In the first fight in 1941 Conn had Louis outpointed, but decided to go for the knockout and was stopped himself in the 13th round. Conn fought many of the greats of the era including: Solly Krieger, Gus Lesnevich, Teddy Yarosz, Vince Dundee and Tony Zale. He retired after fight Joe Louis in an exhibition match on December 10, 1948 with a final record of 63-12-1 with 14 KO's. Billy Conn passed away in 1993. Offered here is a boldly signed boxing glove by Billy Conn. This came from the collection of Sam Alex who had the glove signed at the Boxing Hall Of Fame in Canastota, New York on June 10, 1990 while Billy Conn was in attendance.
This is a regulation size, red leather boxing glove with gold Everlast label on the wrist. Signed on backhand, "World Light-Heavyweight Champion 1939-1941 Billy Conn Won 63 Drew 1 Lost 11. " Notation added "Boxing Hall of Fame June 10, 1990." The glove is clean with virtually no flaws. 11" long.
